Los Angeles Hospitality Training Academy

We offer a variety of training programs that offer workers the tools to succeed by providing skills and customer service training, Vocational ESL classes, skills upgrades, vocational classes and “bridge training” to move participants into entry-level jobs, and then a career.

Hospitality / LAX Worker

This 18-hour course focuses on the art of customer service, mainly in food and beverage establishments, such as the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), luxury hotels, restaurants, event venues and movie studio cafeterias.  It consists of three 6-hour modules: Customer Service training, Server training, and the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Food Handler Certification. The course prepares participants for customer service-oriented positions including, server, host, cashier, fast food attendant, utility worker and busser.

Certificates: ServSafe Food Handler Certification and HTA Industry Recognized Certificate upon completion of this course.

Barista

This 42-hour course focuses on the history, preparation, and service of coffee, and it includes the 18-hour LAX/Hospitality Worker training. The course consists of three 6-hour modules: Customer Service training, Server training, and the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Food Handler Certification training and 24-hours of Barista Training. It incorporates both lecture and hands-on training. This training will prepare participants for barista positions that are available at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and other hotel properties. Enrollment into this training is based on passing a pre-requisite class with our lead barista instructor. Trainees must be able and willing to taste coffee.

Directors of Food & Beverage, Executive Chefs, Human Resources Directors and Managers, and Supervisors from our employer partners have the opportunity to meet and interview participants before the end of the program, and extend job offers.

Certificates: ServSafe Food Handler Certification and HTA Industry Recognized Certificate upon completion of this course.

You will learn through a combination of instruction and practical, hands-on work. We will teach you how to properly prepare a variety of drinks while demonstrating excellent customer service and knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures.

Culinary – Line Cook Apprenticeship Program

The Culinary (Line Cook/Chef de Partie) apprenticeship is a 168-hour, front-loaded curriculum that covers the first semester of culinary school condensed into a fast-paced, 8-week program, followed by a minimum of 1,000-hours in a “competency-based” apprenticeship model. The course prepares workers for culinary positions in a variety of kitchens at hotels, restaurants, and airport concessions. Enrollment into this apprenticeship is based on passing two pre-requisite classes, kitchen math and knife cuts, and two interviews with HTA staff and management.

Directors of Food & Beverage, Executive Chefs, Human Resources Directors and Managers, and Supervisors from our employer partners have the opportunity to meet and interview participants before the end of the program, and extend job offers.

Upon completion of the Culinary Apprenticeship program, apprentices are able to:

Room Attendant/Housekeeper 5-Week Apprenticeship Program

The Room Attendant/Housekeeper apprenticeship is a 153-hour, front-loaded 5-week curriculum, followed by a minimum of 1,000-hours in a “competency-based” apprenticeship model. The course prepares workers for housekeeping positions in upscale hotels. Enrollment into this apprenticeship is based on passing two interviews with HTA staff and management.

Human Resources Directors, Housekeeping Managers, and Supervisors from our employer partners have the opportunity to meet and interview participants before the end of the program, and extend job offers.

Vocational ESL

In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE), we offer a Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) Class for hospitality careers. This class takes place 4 days a week, for 3-hours a day. Students who participate in this class will learn American workplace culture, conversational ESL and technical skills for entry-level position at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as well as hotels. Additionally, students also receive assistance with resume writing, interview skills to help build their confidence to get a job. Individuals interested in taking this Vocational ESL class must also be enrolled with a participating LAUSD DACE campus and pass two interviews with HTA staff.
